Today's Kubicast promises to be the most technical of all time. To handle the challenge, we went to the Gaucho pampa to summon our guru Mateus Caruccio who, along with Talita Bernardes Pereira, is part of our team.
We have selected some of the new features of version 1.12, the ones we liked the most, features we see clients wishing for and administrators looking forward to :D
Let's get to the news:
Network Policy (Stable)
ipBlock: allows controlling access by IP range.
egress: allows configuring outbound traffic rules for containers.Choose the runtime for your pod (Alpha)
One more flexibility option when deploying your pod, being able to choose the runtime of a specific pod (multiple runtimes), a feature closely related to administrators. #NoFatDaemonsPODs
Namespace sharing within the pod, which will facilitate communication of access to PIDs and resources. Here it is not the Kubernetes namespace, but the OS namespace.Volume / Storage
Through CSI, you can create and restore snapshots of a particular volume, using the infrastructure provider's APIs and without having to create your own routine manually.
Topology Aware for PVC, where a delay is created in the PV bind, waiting for the POD to be ready for connection.HPA with custom metrics and VPA in beta
Still in beta, this is a highly anticipated feature. It allows connecting the HPA with your custom metrics — Learn more here.
Also in beta and perhaps the most anticipated one; Vertical Pod Autoscaler allows for vertical scaling, adding more computing power to pods, instead of adding more pods as in HPA.Security:
TLS Bootstrapping
Rotation of internal cluster certificates, still in beta.
And the weekly recommendations were:
