Kubicast #17 — At the Forefront of Technology
The difficult task of knowledge when you are ahead
We start with the News of the week: Nubank receives $200M investment from Tencent for a 5% stake in the company, thus reaching a valuation of $4B.
And entering our main theme, being at the forefront is an opportunity to discover and, as Guilherme said, the “Opportunity to create knowledge”.
There is a crisis in being at the forefront, difficulties in being part of the group of early-adopters. Being part of this group includes: not having good documentation to consult, features that have not yet been tested in diverse scenarios and, because of this, many bugs that were not noticed at first and scope changes that can kill or alter vital features for you.
But a detachment is necessary to be in this group. A detachment from your creations, because at any moment, you might be forced to abandon them.
We talked about this year's talks at Kubecon, and the amount of content being produced for this technology that keeps growing (take a look at the list here: https://kccna18.sched.com).
We also talked about F.O.M.O. (Fear Of Missing Out) and J.O.M.O. (Joy Of Missing Out). And with that, we suggest making use of curation to stay updated, following people in your areas of interest, blogs, and podcasts that concentrate information, and participating in meetups with the community.

We finished discussing why some companies and people decide, even regardless of the product, to build the tools themselves, only to then, after this journey that is usually long and can be frustrating, start working on the real product, and we understand that there is a personal fulfillment in that. But will putting this fulfillment ahead of the goal be productive? It certainly will be for learning, but what about the product?
